Where Life and Faith Continue
Whose life and faith continue
through those who seek and find God here.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Miss Susan Leigh Puryear was born August 16, 1988 in Cumberland County. She loved and was active in her church, her school, and her community. Susan was a member of the Clinton Pentecostal Holiness Church and was leader of the church’s dance team.
A junior at Clinton High School, she was a member of the BETA and Latin Clubs, as well as president of the Fellowship of Christian Students. She also attended the North Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts to study dance.
Because of her great love of dance and the look on younger dancers’ faces, she planned to be a dance teacher. Meredith College was special to her, and she had plans to attend there after high school.
Susan is remembered as Miss Clinton High School and Miss Relay for Life of Sampson County.
Puryear Prayer Garden was established in memory of Susan Leigh Puryear. Ms. Puryear was an extraordinary young lady. She was a light in our community and loved sharing Jesus with everyone.

Born in 1934 on a farm in Sampson County, Mr. Carl James “Do-Right” Dudley Sr. was the son of the late Cary Judson and Laura Elizabeth Parker Dudley and the widower of Mary Elizabeth Honrine Dudley. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force after twenty years of service and received many commendations. He was a Member of both the Allegiant Church & Creative Ministries in Clinton and Whitehorse Christian Center in Lafayette, Indiana. For many years he was the owner of Do-Right-Dudley’s Carpets in Clinton & Dunn. Carl’s favorite pastime was fishing and he enjoyed going to Alaska for saltwater fishing trips. However, he was just as happy fishing in any pond in Sampson County – just as long as he was fishing! Many people around the area also knew Carl as the man who passed out pamphlets with “Cross Pennies”. He wasn’t afraid to share the gospel, or his opinion on any topic with you. That was just Carl. However you knew him, hopefully, he left a lasting impression and impacted your life in a positive way, because that is what Carl would have wanted.
